New Years Dress
I know, I know....we're well into 2015 and here I am posting a 2014 NYE blog. Let's just say I've still been sewing, taking pictures, and loving life. My family (mom, dad, sister, and brother) and I went to see Rickey Smiley and Friends perform at a venue in Houston for NYE 2014. We had a blast and we brought in the new year truly laughing out loud (LOL).
The dress was self drafted and brought on a slight headache because it was so self drafted. All the steps I'm used to reading beforehand when following a pattern was no available to me since I was designing my own garment. After sketching the dress in my croquis binder, I used a basic shirt block for a knit to make the top. The cowl was where I experienced the most difficulty. Now, that part was used from Vogue 1374. The bottom of the dress was drafted on my dress form before stabilizing and attaching it to the top. Since this picture I've made a dress (which I'll post much sooner) with two cowls that were self drafted. It was a much easier process.
My sister made her pants, I made her top using McCalls 6886. The alterations to her shirt was making bishop sleeves and adding an extra inch for her collar band. My mother made her outfit as well. You can read about here on Tracysqcd.com
The leopard fabric was purchased from JoAnn's last spring or summer and the kidney shaped sequins was purchased from a fabric vendor located in Dallas, TX.
